A survey by Richardian Times has revealed that majority of Nigerians are happy about the stepping down of the Head Coach of the Super Eagles over his lackluster start to his job as the national team coach.
Unconfirmed reports emerged this morning that Finidi had stepped down from his role after accusing the NFF and some senior players for not backing him.
Nigeria is dangling dangerously at the edge and may miss out on the next World Cup despite the increased slots to Africa. The draw against South Africa and the disgraceful loss to Benin Republic broke the camel’s back with Nigeria managing only 3 points after 4 games and just two points above the last team in the group.
A sport enthusiast in Lagos, Olamilekan Ogundunke told our reporters that Finidi George proved to be incapable of leading the team to glory .
His words, “Finidi George was a brilliant player in his days, but he is not a good coach. The NFF didn’t get the choice right. We need a tactician with a winning mentality”, he said.
Another analyst, Eyimofe Andrew said the difference between Nigeria and Benin Republic was the touch line battle between the coaches. He said Finidi was no match to the Benin coach, urging the NFF to get a good coach for the Eagles.
Nigerians are of the opinion that Finidi doesn’t have the character and personality to inspire the Eagles to victory.
While some believe his relegation of some players in the team was his undoing, others feel he is unproven to manage at that level.
The Nigerian football has suffered a lot of poor administration and corruption in the past, culminating in the failure of the country to qualify for major tournaments in recent times. Players’ welfare has always been a major issue in the various national teams.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles and Napoli forward, Victor Osimhen has come hard on Finidi George, saying the coach didn’t tell Nigerians the truth about his condition. The forward insisted that injury stopped him from participating in the two qualifiers.
