Chelsea are reportedly in discussions to leave Stamford Bridge for a new stadium at Earl’s Court. According to The Guardian, the club has engaged with Transport for London (TfL), which manages the Earls Court site, about the potential move.
However, the upcoming presentation by the Earl’s Court Development Committee (ECDC) for a mixed-use development does not currently include plans for a football stadium.
Having played at Stamford Bridge for over a century, Chelsea faces challenges with its current capacity of just over 40,000, ranking ninth in the Premier League. Previous efforts to expand the site have been unsuccessful.
The Blues’ CEO, Jason Gannon, who joined the club in 2023 after managing SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, has reportedly had productive talks with TfL and Delancey.
Sources suggest the site could be valued at up to £500 million. However, any move would require an agreement with Chelsea Pitch Owners and addressing fan preferences.
Internal conflicts between co-owners Clearlake Capital and Todd Boehly could further complicate negotiations and planning as Chelsea pursues the project.
