Passwords Are Slowly Disappearing

Logging in with a password might soon feel old-fashioned. Companies like Apple, Google, and Microsoft are replacing traditional passwords with “passkeys”—logins that use your fingerprint, face scan, or phone.

Passkeys are safer because they can’t be stolen as easily as passwords. They’re also faster, letting users access apps or websites without typing long, complicated codes.

Most people won’t notice the change at first, but experts say it could make online accounts more secure and less frustrating over time.

However, users still need to be careful. Passkeys are tied to devices, so losing your phone or tablet could make logging in tricky. Tech companies are working on ways to safely recover accounts without passwords.

The takeaway: passwords aren’t gone yet, but the shift to passkeys shows that logging in is about to get simpler, smarter, and safer.
