The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Ismail Falgore, alongside 21 other lawmakers, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the Speaker’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, who said the lawmakers took the decision to align with the political movement of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to the statement, the defecting lawmakers pledged their continued loyalty and support to the governor’s administration, describing the move as an expression of solidarity with his leadership.
Those who resigned their membership include the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello Butu Butu; Majority Leader, Lawan Hussain; Deputy Majority Leader, Garba Shehu Fammar; Chief Whip, Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki; and Majority Whip, Zakariyya Abdullahi Nuhu, among others.
In all, 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly were involved in the defection, the statement said.
